We are all idealist lunatics until one day history proves us right

We are all idealist lunatics until one day history proves us right

If we want to change the world, we have to be unreasonable, unrealistic and impossible. Foolish. The way we used to be as kids, when we believed anything was possible, even our imaginary, magical land where we had the best time, the one we used to draw on the world map. Some people called it Utopia (Greek Ou=no, topos=place; or land that doesn’t exist) and we called it Moge (Croatian kids for “can be”, “possible”). That’s why I still prefer kids to adults. They always notice and naturally know more. Because they haven’t learned not to see. But… (this „but“ worries me); Even though a child’s soul needs noticing, the culture around it constantly demands blindness. Even though a child’s heart requires play, energy, imagination, passion – the society, school system, institutions suffocate those characteristics and shrink them to the smallest atoms, not letting them live. It sounds like a painful tension they have to endure. And so rowing up, they wilt, shrink or go mad. On their path it doesn’t help at all to be surrounded by constant...

Keep It Simple Stupid and other principles of communication

Keep It Simple Stupid and other principles of communication

When you see a red traffic sign on the road that in big white letters says STOP, you know what it means, don’t you? Immediately. Or do you ask yourselves unnecessary questions? Mull about its meaning? Oh come on, you know right there that you have to stop. That’s what business communication should be like! You say what you need, I tell you what I can give you, we buy a few stamps, sign a dozen papers and that’s it. Remember the Cs of successful communication: 1. Clarity. Say what you want to say in the simplest possible way. Don’t complicate. You have something I need? I have something you need? 1+1=2, so it’s ridiculous calling it 4 with 50% discount. 2. Conciseness. Moderate. Too much information – my brain will explode like popcorn in a microwave oven. Leave the additions for the waiter asking you what you want with your meal. On the other hand – too little info? Something seems fishy. 3. Concreteness. Keep to the subject! More commonly, this is how it goes: this horrid climate change is worrying me, people are such idiots to have brought it to this point. We will...

A little „report“ with a big „THANK YOU“

A little „report“ with a big „THANK YOU“

I have made the decision a long time ago that my life will not be ruled by names, terms, titles, positions. Especially not in the way „tribes“, „natives“, political and interest cliques use them to sort people into different boxes that actually serve to exert their influence and control, to support prejudices and set limitations on everything around us. I don't believe in them as something useful or important. I don't believe in them as something good. Why should we even consider some roles to be small, be it in theater, orchestra, family, work, sports, society, when no role is small, and on the other hand consider other roles to be, by default, large, worthy of respect and being bowed to? The only way a society and its individuals can win in this world full of deformation, insecurity, fear, anxiety, is to allow and expect out of every one of them to be a leader. Every one of them should and can be an inspiration to their friends, colleagues. To children. Everyone should and can take responsibility for their results. Everyone should and can nurture a positive spirit and give themselves with dedication. Yes,...

Unexpected story of light

Unexpected story of light

Some years ago I met a wonderful little girl. Luckily, we still spend time together, she is my teacher and I her student, at least I think so, the one willing to learn, take in, understand, not just blindly follow. I love her as a mentor. She never gives me rules, forms, doesn't show me the way. She gives me light and says: „Take it so you can see the dark.“ So I don't wander as much as many others do. After all, she knows the light will always show me the way, I don't need a map. My path is different from hers anyway. Being is never repeated, each one of us is unique. She knows this well, that's why I love her. And amazingly, in this cluster of others' opinions at every milimeter of our breaths, she doesn't succumb to any social network. She knows she can live without them, that her life is more beautiful that way. She is satisfied with herself and thus has no need to brag. Not that she wouldn't have plenty of reasons to. She says of herself only that she has inexhaustible imagination, creative...

DAMN HUMAN RACE, EXAGGERATES EVERYTHING

DAMN HUMAN RACE, EXAGGERATES EVERYTHING

Bukowski wrote honestly, always: “Writing was never work for me. It had been the same for as long as I could remember: turn on the radio to a classical music station, light a cigarette or a cigar, open the bottle. The typer did the rest. All I had to do was be there. The whole process allowed me to continue when life itself offered very little, when life itself was a horror show. There was always the typer to soothe me, to talk to me, to entertain me, to save my ass. Basically that's why I wrote: to save my ass, to save my ass from the madhouse, from the streets, from myself.” Sounds so easy when one of the greatest American writers says it, a genuine beast, known to have „no time for metaphors“, cutting straight to the bone. Sounds so easy because it was. Bukowski was one of those who never had a problem accepting the truth about this world of useless information, global freakshows, chaos, in which „we're all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn'...
